This summer I was my sister's Maid of honor in her wedding. I had so much fun helping out with everything but especially decor and quickly realized how fast things add up. #ad I wanted to help her make some beautiful things that could be up-cycled and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm so excited to share with you guys this wedding sign that I made for her from an old frame at Goodwill. My favorite part about these signs is that they are so customizable. You could use any frame, any size, any color
paint/ vinyl, font. Not to mention there are so many uses for these- Menus, seating charts- the list goes on. Keep reading to see how simple this process is!
First, head to a local thrift store! I went to the closest one near me and found a frame that matched my sister's wedding colors. The graphic inside the glass does NOT matter, we will be removing this. Here's an example of one I found that worked out great for this project.
Next, make sure you have everything you need!
MATERIALS
-Frame of choice
-Alcohol
-Foam Brush
- Acrylic Paint
-Ruler
-Super Glue
- Weeding Tool - I love this set for different weeding pieces!
- Scraper
The first thing I did when I got home from the thrift store was remove the backing with my true control knife. Some frames do have a backing that opens, but this did not. I cut around the backing and pulled it off , threw it away and cleaned the glass. After this step I super glued the glass to the frame corners and then painted acrylic in a diagonal direction on the back of the glass. I chose a pink metallic color to match my sister's wedding.
Next I checked in Cricut design space and found these gorgeous welcome wedding sign decals that were already put together , so all I had to do was customize their name & date. I picked a very basic font since the design was so intricate. I made two designs for my sister to choose from and she ended up going with the one on the left!
I used my ruler and measured my sign to see how big I needed the decal and started up my Cricut maker, loading the foil , I used the rose gold ( If you haven't seen the foil in person it is GORGEOUS ) but you could use any vinyl, onto the standard grip mat. After the machine cut that I weeded it out , I will add a disclaimer here that foil is not the easiest to weed out. I definitely had to baby it to get it onto the transfer tape before applying it to the front of the glass. Be sure to wipe the front of the glass with alcohol first for best application.
Here is the finished look!
Like I said, this project is so simple and adds a great wow factor with it being so customizable and gorgeous to display. Feel free to add on your own greenery or floral to the border for an extra gorgeous flare!
I hope you enjoyed this easy tutorial!
I'd love to see what you create :)
